For a fun night with friends in the cooler evenings, a cable knit or wool cardigan over a t-shirt paired with jeans is comfortable as well as stylish.

If you think cardigans for men are not fashionable, then think again. More and more designers have included cardigans for men in their collection and no less than David Beckham, THE male fashion icon, is rocking cardigan with such panache and style.

Tips for Men on How to be More Authoritative

Do you ever wonder why it’s your very self-confident best friend or maybe co-worker that always gets other people’s respect? People like your best friend have that natural air of authority that others sense and automatically respond to. It is not something you’re born with, it is an attitude that can be developed and learned. You can project an air of authority by learning some body language and behavior and dressing the part.

Talk over the phone while standing up
This is not a harebrained idea, it is based on empirical studies; being in a standing position while talking on the phone with your boss, a prospective employer or a client, will give your voice more authority than when you are seated. Notice that when you are upright you gesticulate more, and expend more energy than when you’re seated and relaxed while on the phone. This energy is transmitted to your voice giving it more power and sound more authoritative.

Express your opinion in a statement not in a question
You will never be treated seriously if you express your opinion in a question. This small matter of an inflection of the voice at the end of a sentence that makes your statement a question is actually weakening your own authority. Tell people what you have in mind don’t ask them. Most unconsciously do this when ordering food or in other commonplace situations. You can overcome this tendency by being determined, definitive and purposeful and never answer a question by another question.

Dress with authority
Dressing with authority does not really mean wearing a suit. It means dressing a notch higher but in the dress code of your office. If the office culture calls for a button down shirt and slacks then get yourself some spiffy looking separates that will make you fit but at the same time get you noticed.

The Bohemian Style and Look for Men

Bohemian fashion embraces a wide range of looks in clothes and accessories that put emphasis on individualism and nonconformity. The term Bohemian was introduced in Europe in the 19th century to identify the dilettantes of the era – men who were more concerned in the arts than in a career or patriotic duty. In the UK they were the dandies like Lord Byron and Charles Baudelaire. In France they were “flaneurs” or men in a frock coat and ruffled shirt more interested in “walking and experiencing the city” and reciting poetry in Paris cafes.

In the 20s expatriate American writers and artist, the likes of Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and John dos Passos, known as the “Lost Generation” swarmed Paris. They were characterized by their loose jaunty clothing a little tattered at the cuffs for men and short hair and comfortable clothes for women, the bohemian look of that generation.

In North America, the best expression of the bohemian fashion and lifestyle were the Beat Generation and the Beatniks. The beats were the all underground, non-conformist black and white clad writers of the 1940s .In the 50s the Beatniks came along, a wider social movement that displayed the external and shallow aspect of the Beat Generation in their all black berets, turtle necks and beards.

In the 60s the bohemian all black look of the beatniks was superseded by the vibrant colorful costume of the hippies. They wore clothes that were an expression of their unique individualism and as a protest to social evils. The key word was “freedom” or “free look,” their own fashion statement that has no bearing with any typical fashion line. Bell-bottom jeans, hipsters, ankle fringes, wide belts and flower patches as well as tie dye shirts.

The 21st century male who wants to adopt the boho-fashion has the option to go romantic like the dandies or the non-conformist look of either the beatniks or the hippies. Take note that the bohemian look of the beats and beatniks is diametrically opposed to the “free” fashion style of the hippies. Mixing and matching is possible as long as you limit it to two styles per outfit. Give free reign to your individuality and think creative radicalism. Incorporate essential clothing or accessory elements of the era of your choice in your outfit such as a long knitted scarf, jeans with holes or an embroidered jeans are some male boho inspired look.

What Women don’t Like in Men

Take note guys, there are some things about you that repulse most women. Once you become aware of these “don’ts” then do something to correct them if you want women to be drawn to you.

• Long,  dirty toe nails
Just because your toes are seldom out in the open iy does not mean you need not clean them. This summer with sandals and flip flops as de rigueur as summer wear, make sure that your toe nails are clean. You need not go to a salon for a pedicure, just clip it and ensure that it is free of dirt.

• Unwanted facial hair
Nose hair and ear hair are the ultimate and the most objectionable of all facial hairs. Trim them as often as possible, Keep a well shaven face all the time too, a two-day growth of beard on some makes you look unkempt. If you have a moustache or a beard, make sure that it is always properly trimmed. Eyebrows need to be trimmed or plucked too, but please, don’t over pluck it.

• Yucky mouth
Brushing and flossing teeth and mouth rinsing should be part of your daily routine. Yellow teeth, teeth with plaque and bad breadth are totally repulsive to women.

• Unpleasant smell
Unpleasant body smell could be due to infrequent bathing/showering or unfamiliarity to deodorant. Unfortunately, your friends won’t tell you that you smell but surely you will notice their reaction as well as the reaction of people you come in contact with.

• Overpowering scent
If you can smell your cologne on yourself, then you’ve applied too much. No woman wants a guy who smells like a cologne counter.

• Blackheads
Another thing that repels women are ripe blackheads on a man’s face. If you have blackheads, use astringent and deal with them. Maybe a facial can do wonders for you.
